Enable XDMCP with xdm in Slackware 13.37

1. Edit /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess, uncomment the following line.

#*                                       #any host can get a login window

If you’d like broadcast XDMCP server, uncomment the following line also.

#*              CHOOSER BROADCAST       #any indirect host can get a chooser

2. Edit /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers, add the following line to the end.

XTerminalName:0 foreign

You can change XTerminalName to your available host name.

If you prefer command line login for desktop, you can also comment the following line with a leading “#”.

:0 local /usr/bin/X :0

3. Edit /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config, comment the last line with a leading “!”.

DisplayManager.requestPort:    0

4. Start xdm with root for a test.

/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon

5. If you like GUI login for desktop, you can update /etc/inittab:

id:3:initdefault:

to:

id:4:initdefault:

6. Test
Open cygwin, run the following command:

Xwin -query <Put Your IP Here>
